Considering dermal filler injections? Dermal filler is a highly effective treatment for increasing facial volume, fullness and youthfulness using a naturally occurring substances called hyaluronic acid (HA), which works to stabilise skin structure, attract and bind water, and improve elasticity.
It’s great for restoring lost volume and enhancing your best features, but like all treatments, it’s important you do your research before taking the leap. Here are a few dos and don’ts to follow to help you achieve natural looking and long-lasting results.
Dermal Filler Dos…
- Trust a skilled doctor or nurse
Trust is a big factor, you must trust the doctor or nurse who is completing your treatment. At Artisan each of our qualified doctors and nurses have undergone extensive training and have considerable experience across a wide range of non-invasive aesthetic treatments, particularly cosmetic injectables and dermal filler. They will create a tailored treatment plan for you that takes into account your skin type, structure and goals, before strategically placing the dermal filler to ensure you achieve the best results.
- Ice the treatment area
Often swelling can occur post treatment, although this will vary depending on the individual. The tear trough area is also more likely to swell than other areas. The application of ice to the treated area will help to reduce swelling, redness and any bruising, especially the next day!
- Have maintenance treatments
Maintenance appointments, or top-ups, before your results completely wear off can lengthen and enhance the dermal filler’s effects. It is often better to preserve the results rather than start from scratch once all the hyaluronic acid has been broken down. Dermal filler can also be used in conjunction with other treatments to help prevent effects from fading.
- Stay hydrated
Before any injectables treatment, ensure you stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. This is the same for after your treatment. Increased hydration will ensure you avoid excess swelling to the treated area.
Dermal Filler Don’ts…
- Overfill
Realistic expectations will help achieve your desired outcome. If you trying to enhance a particular area, talk to your doctor or nurse about how you can achieve a natural look that is right for you. Often multiple smaller treatments can have a better effect than large treatments in one go.
- Have treatments if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
Dermal filler cannot be administered to clients who are either pregnant or breastfeeding. Safety of clients is paramount at Artisan Clinics so please ensure you consult our team to find out what treatments are suitable for you.
- Drink alcohol before or after your treatment
There should be no alcohol consumption at least 24 hours pre or post your dermal filler treatment. The intake of alcohol can increase inflammation so stay hydrated with other alternatives that will enhance the healing process.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours
Exercise may result in additional bruising or swelling of the treatment area, so it is advised to avoid any intense exercise for the first 24 hours post treatment.
