Skin needling with PRP – the new cosmetic dream team

Skin needling and platelet rich plasma (PRP) are two of our most requested treatments at Artisan. This is because of their ability to totally rejuvenate the skin with little to no pain and downtime. But did you know you can actually combine them to create an even more powerful result?

First things first, a quick recap on skin needling and PRP. PRP is actually a form of cosmetic injectable. It involves drawing a small sample of your blood, which is then spun in a centrifuge for approximately five minutes to separate the plasma from the other blood particles. The platelet rich plasma is then reinjected back into the treatment area to stimulate collagen and elastin production.

Skin needling meanwhile doesn’t involve injecting a product into your skin. It works by penetrating the top layers of your skin with micro-needles that create pin-point injuries in the deeper layers. This then triggers the body’s natural healing response, stimulating new collagen and elastin formation.

Both treatments are highly effective in reducing scarring and fine lines and wrinkles, improving skin texture and tone and stimulating collagen production for a tighter, plumper looking complexion. When combined however, the results are even greater.

So how does it work?

Skin needling with PRP is a two-step treatment that takes 30 to 45 minutes. The treatment begins with PRP. Your nurse will draw a small amount of blood, which is then centrifuged to separate the components. The platelet rich plasma component is then applied topically to the treatment area like a serum. Your clinician will then carry out the skin needling treatment by making small punctures to the outermost layers of your skin with the skin needling device.

PRP delivers growth factors to your skin, which skin needling works to deliver into the deeper layers, stimulating the body’s healing response to boost collagen. This results in tighter, smoother, more rejuvenated looking skin.

While there are one to two days downtime involved, the long-term results make this treatment well worth trying. Our clinicians will consult with you to determine the best course of treatment to get maximum benefit, but generally, two to three treatments are recommended initially to achieve optimum results.
