Everyone is trying LED Light Therapy. Here’s why!
What is LED Light Therapy?
LED Light Therapy is a popular treatment for a range of skin conditions. The LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, and as the name suggests it delivers various wavelengths of light to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process. Working at a cellular level, the healing light helps to increase collagen production, stimulate blood flow and reduce the signs of ageing, giving the skin a gratifying glow.
LED light therapy is effective as a stand-alone treatment and is often performed in a course of six to ten sessions. It is also famous for its ability to enhance treatment results from lasers and cosmetic injectables, producing a synergistic effect and minimising bruising or redness associated with some advanced treatments.
What can LED Light Therapy treat?
Evidence suggests LED can help treat a variety of skin conditions, with benefits ranging from cosmetic concerns to aiding in recovery for burn victims, helping to accelerate wound healing and even assisting with the treatment of some skin cancers.
At Artisan, we use LED Light Therapy to treat:
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Mild to moderate acne and acne scarring
- Soothe inflammation and redness from conditions like rosacea, eczema and psoriasis
- Minimise bruising, redness and aid in the rejuvenation process from some advanced treatments
Benefits of LED Light Therapy
Our clinicians can tailor your LED treatment to address your skin concerns. LED light therapy uses different wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin at various depths. There are various benefits of LED Light Therapy.
- Blue light (415nm) is commonly used to treat mild to moderate acne. The blue light targets acne-causing bacteria, helps control oil production, eases inflammation and promotes healing.
- Red light (633-660nm) permeates through to the epidermis, which may stimulate collagen production and improve skin hydration while also helping to reduce inflammation.
- Near infrared light (830nm) penetrates the skin the deepest layers of the skin, where it may reduce inflammation and support faster recovery in some people.
At-Home LED Devices
Recently, there has been a boost in the number of at-home LED light devices on the market. These devices claim to offer the same benefits as professional LED machines, however due to regulatory requirements in Australia they generally have lower power outputs than those available in clinics. As a result, it takes much, much longer to reap the same benefits and without the experience of a qualified clinician, this can make it even more difficult to achieve your skin goals.
Our experienced team of cosmetic doctors, nurses and dermal therapists select the most appropriate settings for your skin condition and skin goals. They can also offer professional advice and craft a personal treatment plan for you to help you on your journey to healthy skin.
What to expect during an LED light therapy treatment?
An Artisan LED treatment will always start with a consultation. Here, our clinicians will ask you to explain your concerns and what you’re hoping to achieve from your treatment. This helps select the best settings for your skin condition and make recommendations on complementary treatments and skincare.
In preparation for your treatment, your clinician will cleanse the face or treatment area and provide you with eye protection. The treatment itself is generally comfortable, and some clients report finding it relaxing. You might feel a warming sensation, but no pain or discomfort.
After your treatment, our clinicians will remove the eye protection and apply moisturiser and sunscreen, protecting you as you go about your day.
How many treatments do I need?
As a stand-alone treatment, a single LED session may provide a temporary glow or soothing effect. However, LED really shines when performed consistently over a course of six to ten treatments or as advised by your treating clinician. As LED does not emit ultraviolet rays, it is considered low risk when used correctly. Suitability and frequency of treatments vary for each individual and your clinician will advise you on the best approach. Packages of four or more are available if a course of treatments is recommended for your goals.
Is there any downtime?
There is no downtime with LED light therapy – the treatment is quick (15-30 minutes) with no recovery time, making it suitable for a “lunchtime” session or to squeeze in before your next big event for a last-minute glow.
Is LED light therapy safe during pregnancy?
LED light therapy does not use UV rays and is considered low-risk, however suitability during pregnancy should be discussed with your treating clinician.
How to book.
Book your LED light therapy session today, or simply add one to your next treatment or cosmetic injectable appointment. Results vary for each individual. Not all patients are suitable and your clinician will advise you on the best treatment approach.
