Fat Dissolving Injections | Artisan Aesthetic Clinics

Fat dissolving injections contain a substance called phosphatidylcholine (PC), which is a natural compound derived from soybean. When injected directly into fat pockets, it causes the fat cells to rupture and breakdown via the body’s usual metabolic process, resulting in a more contoured shape. Fat dissolving injections are used to treat any part of the body where there are small, defined fat pockets. Popular areas include: chin, hips, thighs and stomach.

Results vary depending on the area treated but are typically visible after four to eight weeks with optimal results at 12 weeks. Results last up to two years. One to four treatments, spaced six to eight weeks apart, are recommended to achieve the best result.

Before your treatment:

Avoid blood-thinning medication such as aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil, one week prior

Prior to your first treatment, our doctor will consult with you to assess your suitability for fat dissolving injections and discuss any concerns or questions you may have.  

The treatment involves a series of small injections of the prescribed product directly into unwanted fat pockets. The injections may sting for a few seconds, and in some instances a numbing agent may be applied.

Anyone who:

Is hypersensitive to ingredients including soy or phosphatidylcholine
Is pregnant or breastfeeding
Is under the age of 18
Is at risk of acute or chronic infection
Has serious renal or liver disease
Has a coagulation defect
Is diabetic with vascular disease
Has an autoimmune disease
Has cancer
Has Hepatitis B or C

Side effects are rare, but may include:

Swelling, bruising, itching, pain, sensitivity to pressure and excessive warmth in the injection site which is usually resolved within two to five days

Do not shower for the first four hours
Minimise alcohol and drink plenty of water for the first 24 hours
Avoid excessive exercise for the first 24 hours
Do not take anti-inflammatories (e.g. aspirin and Nurofen) for the first 24 hours. Paracetamol can be taken if required.
A cool compress can also be applied to the treated area to help reduce swelling
Minimise excessive sun and UV exposure for the first two weeks
Massage the treated area for 15 minutes per day for two weeks to aid the process of fat elimination.

To ensure that you are happy and that optimal results are achieved, it is recommended that you attend a review appointment and assessment.

To achieve best results, one to four treatments, spaced six to eight weeks apart, are recommended.
