Scarring is a common skin condition that many will experience at some point in their life. When scars are shallow after an injury, they often heal and fade without assistance. However deeper scars can leave unsightly and disfiguring marks and come in a range of forms:
- Hypertrophic scars—thick, raised and dark in colour
- Keloid scars—rubbery, raised and reddened marks that continue to grow over time
- Atrophic scars—an indentation or ‘pit’ in the skin, commonly caused by acne
- Stretch marks—caused by rapid growth or dramatic fluctuations in weight
- Contracture scars—mostly attributed to burn injuries.
Scars form when the dermis (deep, thick layer of skin) is damaged. The body forms new collagen fibres (a naturally occurring protein in the body) to mend the damage, resulting in a scar. The new scar tissue will have a different texture and quality than the surrounding tissue. Depending on the type of injury, the texture and quality will vary dramatically.
Whatever the cause – whether from a traumatic incident or surgery – Artisan Aesthetic Clinics have several highly effective treatments to help reduce the appearance of scarring.
Treatments such a skin needling, microdermabrasion and HydraFacial MD™ can provide fantastic results for clients who are suffering from scarring.
Skin needling works by creating micro-injuries below the surface of the skin using very fine needles. This stimulates the growth of fibroblast cells causing the increased production of collagen in the targeted area. The process helps the skin to repair itself after it has encountered physical damage like cuts or scars. Because of this, your skin will eliminate old tissue cells that cause scarring.
Fraxel works by penetrating the top layers of your skin a fraction at a time to stimulate the production of new skin cells and collagen. Because it leaves most of the surrounding skin intact, your skin’s natural rejuvenation process kicks in. This results in reduced wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation.
HydraFacial MD is a four-step treatment that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and hydration. Because of its special patented Vortex-Fusion tip, it also infuses the skin with antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, peptides and other essential nutrients. It works to repair sun damage, clear congestion, shrink enlarged pores, even out skin tone and fight the signs of ageing.
