Reduce the appearance of scarring

It is common for individuals to accumulate a scar or two throughout their life. ‘Normal’ scars appear after an injury has healed and fade without assistance. However deeper scars can leave unsightly and disfiguring marks and come in a range of forms:

  • Hypertrophic scars—thick, raised and dark in colour
  • Keloid scars—rubbery, raised and reddened marks that continue to grow over time
  • Atrophic scars—an indentation or ‘pit’ in the skin, commonly caused by acne
  • Stretch marks—caused by rapid growth or dramatic fluctuations in weight
  • Contracture scars—mostly attributed to burn injuries.

Scars form when the dermis (deep, thick layer of skin) is damaged. The body forms new collagen fibres (a naturally occurring protein in the body) to mend the damage, resulting in a scar. The new scar tissue will have a different texture and quality than the surrounding tissue. Depending on the type of injury, the texture and quality will vary dramatically.

Whatever the cause – whether from a traumatic incident or surgery – Artisan Aesthetic Clinics have several highly effective treatments to help reduce the appearance of scarring.

Treatments such a Dermapen skin needling, microdermabrasion and HydraFacial MD™ can provide fantastic results for clients who are suffering from scarring.

Dermapen™ skin needling

Dermapen skin needling works by creating micro-injuries below the surface of the skin using very fine needles. This stimulates the growth of fibroblast cells causing the increased production of collagen in the targeted area. The process helps the skin to repair itself after it has encountered physical damage like cuts or scars. Your skin will eliminate old tissue cells that cause scarring and will replace it with new and fresh collagen.

Microdermabrasion resurfaces the outer most layer of the skin using a crystal surface over the treatment area. It removes all the dead skin cells to reveal a new layer of skin that is clean, even and glowing. The irregular shape of the crystal surface is excellent in smoothing the skin and the ridged edges of scarring.

HydraFacial MD™

Similar to microdermabrasion is HydraFacial MD™. This four-step treatment combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and hydration while infusing the skin with antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, peptides and other essential nutrients via a special patented Vortex-Fusion™ tip. It works to repair sun damage, clear congestion, shrink enlarged pores, even out skin tone and fight the signs of ageing.
