Dry and Dull Skin
Hydration and skin brightness are linked to how well the skin maintains balance at its surface. At Artisan Aesthetic Clinics, we support clients who feel their skin is becoming less supple or looks lacklustre, which can be associated with a dry or dull appearance.
What Causes Signs of Dull and Dehydrated Skin?
Dull or dry skin is often caused by the skin losing more water than it can retain, particularly when the skin barrier is compromised.
Several factors can contribute to this imbalance. Environmental exposure, such as sun, wind and low humidity, can increase water loss from the skin. Daily habits, including long hot showers, certain skin care products and limited water intake, may also affect the skin’s ability to maintain hydration.
Over time, natural changes in the skin’s structure can further reduce its capacity to hold moisture, which may make dullness and dehydration more noticeable.
Signs of Dull and Dehydrated Skin
Dull and dry skin may present with the following signs:
- Lacklustre complexion
- Tight or uncomfortable sensation
- Fine lines that appear more pronounced
- Flaky or uneven skin texture
- Temporary rough patches or crepey feel
These changes typically reflect a skin layer with reduced water content and barrier disruption.
Areas of Concern
Several areas of concern are commonly associated with dull and dry skin, including:
- Cheeks and forehead
- Under-eye area
- Around the mouth and jawline
This pattern is often linked to differences in skin thickness, frequent facial movement and ongoing exposure to environmental factors.
